What is Reiki?

Reiki Healing Energy
Reiki (pronounced " ray key" ) is a form of energy healing popularized by a Japanese doctor, Mikao Usui, near the turn of the century. Dr. Usui was searching for the healing knowledge that Jesus Christ and Buddah had utilized and after studying many sacred texts kept in monastaries, finaly gained this insight through what appears to be a Shamanic Vision Quest. A Reiki practitioner has been specificaly attuned to the healing vibration produced by the universe and channels this energy, passing it through their body & hands to the recipient. Akin to a magnafying glass collecting energy at a molecular level and focusing it into a concentrated field. Think back to science class - everything is made up of molecules vibrating close together, the faster and closer they are - the denser the object. Reiki energy is a specific vibration that can be seen and felt even over long distances. It is of the purest form and does not emenate from within the practiioner. What is a Shaman?

Northern Shaman Woman
Shamanism predates all organized religions, dating back to the Paleolithic, and certainly to the Neolithic period. Archaeological evidence exists for Mesolithic shamanism. In November 2008, researchers announced the discovery of a 12,000-year-old site in Israel that they regard as one of the earliest known shaman burials. Aspects of shamanism are encountered later in organized religions as well, and are coming into our modern world with a sweet ressurgance.
A Shaman can travel at will between the spirit realm and the ordinary realm. Shaman's believe that everything has a spirit and most dis-ease can be traced the spiritual realm, negotiated with, and healed to then take affect in the 'ordinary' reality most of us live in during our waking, day to day life.
Many helping spirits and ancestors accompany a Shamanic Practicioner and guide the process. This can be during a Shamanic "Journey" and/or during medicine making, sacred workings and ceremony. A drum and rattle are powerful sacred objects routinely used but not essential to a Shaman's Practise. Smudge, song, talismans, stories and a variety of spiritualy infused objects like bones, feathers and stones may also be incorporated in healings or other Shamanic workings.
A classic image to conjure up of a Shaman would be from movies with a Native Medicine Man working mysteriously and highly revered by his community for physical & spiritual healing, the safety of the tribe, locating game, resources or infomration via visions, dreams or premanisions.
One does not call themself a Shaman. It is an honourary title bestowed apon them by their community awknowledging their healing or divining abilities. The call to Shamanism as a practise and a way of life can come in the form of near a death experience, surviving an animal attack, an undeniable, unshakable driving call from Spirit or a combination of these elements. For me it was a combination, with the most significant element being the survival of three kinds of poisous spider bites ~ Black Widow, Brown Recluse and Hobo.

What is Shamanic Reiki?
*Please Note* I am currently not offering Shamanic Reiki at this time
For me, Shamanic Reiki consists of taking a regular Reiki healing session and blending it with my Shamanic practise by connecting with the Spirit realm. Checking in to see what Spirits are with me, the client and the space we are working in, inviting them to give Reiki or direct me to specific areas and techniques, channeling Reiki in that reality as well and sometimes gleaning messages from Helping Spirits or Ancestors for the client. My intention is to keep it to light and energy working rather than more traditional Shamanic healings such as soul retrieval, deposession and psycopomp. If healing of this nature is needed or sought after, I will refer you to a fantastic Reverand Shaman, Angela Prider. Another way I blend the two healing modalities is by infusing Shamanicaly created sacred objects intended for individual clients with Reiki. My practise is forever growing and evolving as my skills expand, my personal growth intensifies and as spirit guides me.
~Namaste~
A traditional Reiki salutation & honouring meaning;
The Divine within me meets the Divine within you. When we are both in this place, we are one!
